Holidays can be stressful for a lot of reasons. From planning parties and costumes, to prepping food and decorations, things can get hectic. But Halloween calls for a special type of preparation. We like to make fun and adorable treats this time of year that don’t take a lot of effort, like these hotdog mummies.
A key part of this is to find recipes that are really cute but quick to make. These Spider Web Rice Krispies Treats are the perfect balance of all those things. Your friends and family will love them and it looks like they took a lot of effort.

Ingredients You Need

- Rice Krispies Cereal – Rice Krispies cereal makes up the majority of this treat and gives it it’s signature light, crunchy texture.
- Marshmallows – You can’t make Rice Krispies Treats without marshmallows! Use whatever size you can find.
- Butter – I use salted butter for this recipe to counterbalance the sweetness.
- Black Gel Icing– The black gel icing is what you use to draw on the spider web pattern. It doesn’t have to be black, however. If you want it to be more whimsical, you could use white or sparkly.
- Spider Sprinkles– These are optional, but make the design a bit more interesting.
Equipment Needed
You’ll need a few items to make these treats. For the most part these are tools you will already have in your kitchen.
- Baking sheet – You’ll need a shallow baking sheet on which to form the Rice Krispies. I use a quarter sheet pan. If you use something smaller, like a 9×13″ pan, the treats will be too thick.
- Parchment paper or silicon mat – It’s great to place some parchment paper or a silicon mat on the baking sheet so the Rice Krispies won’t stick. You can also just butter the pan before adding the treats.
- Spider web cookie cutter – You can use whatever size cutter you want, depending on your preference. This is the one we used.
- Spider sprinkles – I had to order these from Amazon but you might have luck finding them in the grocery store.

Helpful Tips
- For frosting the cookies, it’s easier if you start with the straight lines. Draw the straight lines first, going from one tip to the opposite one, keeping the lines as straight as possible. Then move on to the outline, and then the middle curved lines.
- To make it easier to cut with a cookie cutter, try dipping the edges of the cookie cutter into either softened or melted butter. This will keep it from sticking to the cookies so much and you’ll get a cleaner cut.
- If you need to, you can use a toothpick to clean up your spiderweb lines if they get a little messy.

Spiderweb Rice Krispies Treats
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons (56 g) butter
- 40 marshmallows or 5 1/2 cups of mini marshmallows
- 6 cups (168 g) Rice Krispies cereal
- black gel icing
- spider sprinkles or gummies
Instructions
- Prepare a baking sheet by lining with parchment paper, silicon mat, or rubbing on butter. Set aside.
- Add butter to a large pot over medium heat. When melted, add marshmallows to the pot and simmer, stirring occasionally, until fully melted.
- Remove the pot from the heat and add Rice Krispies cereal. Stir gently with a spatula until fully combined. Keep in mind that as it cools, the mixture will get harder to work with.
- Pour onto the prepared baking sheet. Press and shape with your hands until smooth and even. Cool completely (about 1 hour).
- Once completely cooled, remove the block of Rice Krispies treats from the pan and place it on a cutting board. Using a spider web cookie cutter, cut as many as you can get.
- Using a gel frosting tube, draw a web on the cookies. Then place a spider sprinkle on each one.
Equipment Needed
- Parchment paper or silicon mat
- Spider web cookie cutter
- Black gel frosting
- Spider sprinkles
Notes
- You have to work quickly once you take the mixture off the heat as it will begin to harden right away.
- You can make whatever size webs you want, but the smaller they are the harder they are to cut out and draw on.

How to Make Spider Web Rice Krispies Treats
Step 1: Melt butter & marshmallows
Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat until completely melted. Add the marshmallows in the pot and let them melt into the butter. Continue to melt them until there are no lumps left and the mixture is fully melted.

Step 2: Add in Rice Krispies
Add in the Rice Krispies cereal and stir it gently with a spatula until it’s fully incorporated with the marshmallow. Try to mix quickly because the longer the mixture cools the harder it becomes and it will be more difficult to mix.
Step 2: Press into baking sheet
Scoop the Rice Krispies mixture onto the baking sheet and press it out until it’s even and as smooth possible. Let it cool completely.

Step 4: Cut out webs
Using your spider web cookie cutter, cut out as many spiderwebs as you can. I like to move it around at first to determine how best to cut the cookie to get the most webs.

Step 4: Decorate
The decorating part is the most fun. You can do this at a party and have everyone do their own icing on top, if you want to make it interactive. Ice the cookies in a spiderweb pattern with black gel icing and place a spider onto the top.

Conclusion
If you’re preparing for Halloween and looking for a low-effort dessert that is still delicious and holiday themed, these Spiderweb Rice Krispies Treats are the perfect place to start. Hopefully this will make your Halloween feel a little easier and a little more festive.
