Jalapeno Popper Wontons are a flavorful appetizer featuring a savory blend of cream cheese, bacon, cheddar cheese, jalapenos, and garlic powder encased in crispy wonton wrappers.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Cheesy delight: Shredded cheddar cheese melts beautifully, adding a sharp and tangy taste to the filling.
  • Easy to cook: Requires only cooking oil for frying, making it a simple and convenient appetizer option for any occasion
  • Sweet and tangy dip: Sweet chili sauce serves as a delicious dipping sauce, adding a perfect balance of sweetness and tanginess to complement the savory wontons.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Cream cheese – Make sure to leave the cream cheese out of the fridge for a little while to make sure it’s softened. It will be way easier to mix when it’s soft.
  • Bacon – Pre-cook and crumble the bacon so it’s ready to be added to the filling.
  • Cheddar cheese – I use sharp cheddar cheese, but this is also very good with pepper jack cheese for an added spicy kick.
  • Jalapeno peppers – You can decide the heat you add to the filling by taking all or most of the seeds and white ribs out of the peppers before you chop them.
  • Garlic powder – You could also use onion powder or a seasoned salt.
  • Wonton wrappers – It’s best to use wonton wrappers, not spring roll or egg roll wrappers.
  • Sweet chili sauce – Thai sweet chili sauce is a great dipping sauce for these, but you could also use Ranch dressing, Sriracha mayo, or an onion dip.
  • Cooking oil – These wontons can be deep fried in hot oil if you want. I like to bake mine so I just brush the oil on lightly so the wrappers crisp up and become golden in color.

Helpful Tips

  • When handling jalapeno peppers, it’s a good idea to wear gloves to protect your hands from spicy oils. This prevents any discomfort or accidental contact with your eyes.
  • Allow the cream cheese to soften at room temperature before mixing it with other ingredients. This makes it easier to blend and results in a smoother filling.
  • Be careful not to overfill the wonton wrappers with the cream cheese mixture. Too much filling can cause the wontons to burst open while frying.
  • Wonton wrappers can dry out quickly, so cover them with a damp cloth while you work to prevent them from becoming brittle.
  • Offer a variety of dipping sauces like sweet chili sauce, ranch dressing, or sour cream to complement the spicy jalapeno popper wontons.

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 2 strips bacon cooked and crumbled
  • 1/2 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 3 jalapeno peppers seeded and diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 20 wonton wrappers
  • 1/2 cup sweet chili sauce
  • Cooking oil

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (205°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, stir together the cream cheese, bacon, cheddar, and jalapeno peppers. Arrange wonton wrappers on a clean surface. Scoop about one teaspoon of the filling in the center of each wrapper.
  • Moisten your finger in a bowl of water and wet the edges of a wonton wrapper. Fold the wonton into a triangle. Continue on until all are complete.
  • For the oven, place all of the wontons, spaced out, on the baking sheet.
  • Brush each wonton lightly with cooking oil.
  • Bake for 8 minutes, then flip them over and bake for another 5 minutes, until golden and crispy.
  • Serve with sweet chili dipping sauce.

For the deep fryer:

  • Heat the oil in a deep fryer to 375° F (190° C). When hot, fry the wontons a few at a time until golden brown, about 2 minutes.

For the air fryer:

  • Space the wontons out in the air fryer basket so they aren’t touching. Cook on 375° F for 8 minutes, until golden and crispy.

I understand you are paid by advertisers but when trying to read your article i was literally constantly bombarded with ads that covered 90% of content of whole screen and also prevented from scrolling and continuing to read anything of course till the end which did not even include the recipe. Eds were repeating identical over and over. This just makes you give up and look elsewhere!! When its the entire screen….

Hi Kathleen, I am truly sorry for the intrusive ads and the missing recipe card. I unfortunately can only fix one of the issues (the recipe has been added). We are a team of 2 and ads are the only way we get paid for our work. It’s not possible to remove the ads for this reason. If there were some other way to paid that might be possible, but readers don’t want to pay for the content almost as much as they don’t want the ads.
