Grilled Onion Steaks might not be the first thing you think to throw on the grill, but once you try them, they’ll stick with you. Thick slices of sweet onion get lightly charred, tender in the center, and finished with a tangy Alabama white sauce that adds just the right punch.

This is a great side when you want something a little different from the usual grilled vegetables. The onions turn soft and slightly sweet as they cook, and that creamy, tangy sauce brings everything together. It’s simple, bold, and works alongside just about anything you’re grilling.
Helpful Tips
- Slice the onions thick so they hold their shape on the grill. Thin slices will fall apart and cook too quickly.
- Use metal skewers to make threading the onions easier. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water first so they don’t burn.
- Brush the sauce on toward the end of grilling to prevent it from burning while still getting that rich flavor on the onions.
