Baked Ravioli Casserole

This Baked Ravioli Casserole is a comforting dish that’s as easy to prepare as it is delicious. Packed with fresh ravioli, tomatoes, onions, and mozzarella cheese it’s a perfect weeknight meal.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 pound ground beef
  • Salt and pepper to season
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 28 ounce can chopped tomatoes
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 20 ounce fresh ravioli uncooked
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese divided

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet over medium high heat, add the ground beef. Season with salt and pepper. Cook and crumble for 4 minutes.
  • Add the onion powder, oregano, Worcestershire sauce, and onions. Cook for an additional 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  • Remove grease. Add 3/4 of the canned tomatoes to the skillet, along with the heavy cream, and stir to combine. Simmer over low heat.
  • Pour the remaining tomatoes into the bottom of an 8x8” casserole dish and spread it out on the bottom. Arrange half the raviolis over the tomatoes. Top with half of the meat sauce, then 1/2 the mozzarella cheese.
  • Continue to make another layer.
  • Cover and bake for 30 minutes. Then remove the cover and continue cooking for another 5 minutes, until the top is slightly bubbly.

Notes

  • Pick up fresh ravioli at the grocery store or homemade ravioli. If you have to go with frozen ravioli you will have to add extra cooking time unless you thaw them first.
  • Try adding half Italian sausage or pork sausage to the ground beef for extra flavor.
  • Toss in some sautéed vegetables like bell peppers, mushrooms, or spinach for added flavor and nutrition.
