Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed
  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water
  • ¼ cup pizza sauce
  • 6 oz mozzarella cheese sliced or freshly grated
  • Fresh basil leaves torn

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425°F.
  • Unfold the puff pastry and roll with a rolling pin to flatten creases and thin slightly.
  • Cut into 4 strips, then cut in half to make 8 rectangles.
  • Use the tines of a fork to score a ¼-inch border around each pastry.
  • Use a fork to poke holes in the center of each pastry.
  • Beat the egg with 1 tablespoon of water. Brush the egg mixture over each pastry, including the center and border.
  • Bake puff pastry for 10 minutes, then remove from oven.
  • Spread pizza sauce evenly on each pastry. Top with cheese and any additional toppings you like.
  • Bake again for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Top with torn fresh basil before serving.
