General Tso Chicken Wings

These delicious General Tso Chicken Wings are cooked to perfection, then coated in sweet and savory General Tso sauce that will have you licking your fingers.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound chicken wings
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

For the sauce

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon chili paste/oil optional
  • 1/3 cup chicken broth
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger finely grated
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

Instructions

  • Pre-heat the oven to 400° F (205C).
  • Season the wings with salt and pepper and place them on a baking tray lined with foil or a baking mat. Bake for 15 minutes, then remove and flip over the wings. Bake for another 15 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, combine the sauce ingredients, except for the cornstarch, in a small saucepan over medium high heat. Once boiling, add the cornstarch and cool on a low boil for 3 minutes. Remove from heat.
  • Remove the wings from the oven and baste them liberally with the General Tso sauce.
  • Turn your oven to broil, with the top rack lowered to the 2nd row. Broil the wings for 3 minutes. Remove the tray and slather the sauce on the other side of the wings. Broil again.
  • Once the wings have gotten a light char on each side, remove them from the oven. If you like more sauce, put the wings in a bowl, add the remaining sauce, and toss to coat.

Notes

  • Baste the wings with the sauce and/or toss them with sauce to coat. Both ways are easy and delicious.
  • Baking the chicken on a silicon baking mat or parchment paper keeps them from sticking to the baking sheet and makes clean up easy.
