This Honey Garlic Salmon is pan seared and glazed with a sweet and savory sauce of garlic, honey, soy sauce and a few other simple ingredients. Serve it over rice or sauted greens for a delicious meal.
This is one of my favorite ways to serve salmon. The sauce is really delicious. If you’re looking for something a little different and more flavorful than grilled salmon, give this a try! We know you’ll love it.
Why You’ll Love It
- The sauce for this salmon will quickly become one of your favorites. It’s all things rolled into one – sweet, savory, slightly spicy, sticky, and delicious. We eat it on chicken, pork, fish, sweet potatoes, etc.
- With just six ingredients in this sauce, this is one of the easiest and most impressive week night meals you can find. It takes less than 30 minutes to come together.
- You can pair this salmon with rice, or any greens or veggie you want. I’m a big fan of sautéed greens that come on the tops of my other veggies – like beetroot greens and carrot tops, but you can also use kale, spinach, or chard. Or serve it over rice. With the extra sauce poured over the top, it’s simply irresistible.
Kslsjl says: Used half the amount of garlic and substituted maple syrup for the honey. My husband commented many times that he really liked this recipe! It’s a keeper!

Ingredients You Need
- Salmon filets – I use filets that are around 4-6 oz. These can be long and thin, or a thicker piece.
- Seasonings – Salt, ground black pepper, Spanish paprika – these are mixed together to make a dry rub for the salmon.
- Butter – The butter adds a nice richness at the end of the cooking process and it helps to thicken the sauce.
- Garlic – Freshly cut cloves are best, but chopped garlic from the store will also work.
- Honey – I really like the sweetness that the honey adds to the sauce, but if you want to cut the sweetness, they honey can be reduced.
- Soy sauce – I always use lite soy sauce, because it has a lot less sodium in it.
- Sriracha – yes to a little spiciness! But don’t worry, the sriracha adds more flavor than spice. If you don’t like spicy food at all, you can leave this out.
- Lemon juice
- Chives – for garnish
How to Make Honey Garlic Salmon
Step 1: Season the salmon
Season the salmon fillets with salt, pepper, and paprika. Be sure to get both sides.
Step 2: Pan sear
Place them in a large pan over medium heat. Cook for 4 minutes per side, taking care when flipping not to break the fillet. Remove from pan and set aside.
Step 3: Make the sauce
Add the butter, garlic, honey, soy sauce, sriracha, and lemon juice in the pan. Whisk to combine. Heat over medium high heat until bubbly and slightly reduced, about 5 minutes.
Add the salmon back to the pan. Spoon the bubbling sauce over the top of the fillets. Cook for 2-3 mins, until heated through.

Tips for Cooking Salmon
Salmon is my favorite fish to cook with because it turns out so flaky and tender, still juicy and flavorful…. as long as you don’t overcook it.
- Don’t overcook it – My biggest tip for cooking the salmon is to never go above medium heat on the stove top and watch it closely. The top should still be translucent when you flip it over. If it’s already opaque, you’ve left it on too long.
- Go with a skinless fillet – There are times when a skin-on fillet is great, but in this recipe isn’t one of them. The skin won’t be able to get crispy with this sauce, so it’s best to use a skinless fillet.
- Oven or stovetop – It’s fine to cook the salmon in the oven instead of on the stove top I don’t do that for this recipe because I’m going to use the skillet to make the sauce anyways, so there’s really no need to dirty another pan and turn on the hot oven. If you do want to cook it in the oven, go with 350 degrees F for 8-10 minutes.
Questions About the Recipe
Can I Cook the Salmon in the Oven?
My preferred method for making salmon is on the stovetop. I find that I can regulate the heat better so the salmon doesn’t overcook, which can happen quickly in the oven or air fryer. You need to keep a close eye on them because they cook quickly.
Can I Leave the Honey Out of the Sauce?
I know a lot of people are trying to cut sugar from their diets, so it might be desirable to cut the honey from the sauce, however it’s a major component of the flavor, so I don’t suggest cutting it entirely. Instead, you might cut the amount in half.
What to Serve With It
I like to serve this dish with rice or with sauteed greens. Any type of side salad, like this Classic Wedge Salad or this crunchy Broccoli Salad will pair well. Or how about Roasted Green Beans & Mushrooms.

- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 3 tablespoons (63 g) honey can be reduced to 1 1/2 to cut sweetness

- 1 1/2 tablespoons (20 g) sriracha
- 1 tablespoon (15 g) lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon (3 g) chives chopped
Instructions
- Season the salmon fillets with salt, pepper, and paprika. Place them in a large pan over medium heat. Cook for 4 minutes per side, taking care when flipping not to break the fillet. Remove from pan and set aside.

Gosh, that sounds so flavorful..nice idea to combine honey with garlic. Yumm
This looks wonderful and like an excellent recipe for our family! We really like salmon in our house so I’m sure this will be a hit. And it looks super easy to prepare!
Your description is irresistible – sweet, savory, slightly spicy, sticky, and delicious! How can I say no? We’re huge salmon fans, but I was intrigued by your suggestion that the sauce in this recipe would also work well for other proteins like pork or chicken (and even for sweet potatoes – oh yum)! Great recipe idea and super adaptable – thank you so much!
This is such a delicious recipe! Can’t wait to make it again!
That sauce though! It’s amazing!
It’s as good as it looks 🙂
The description of the recipe states: “This Honey Garlic Salmon is pan seared and topped with a sweet and savory sauce of garlic, ginger, honey and soy sauce.” I don’t see ginger within the listed ingredients
Sorry for that oversight. The sauce does not contain ginger.
Used half the amount of garlic and substituted maple syrup for the honey. My husband
commented many times that he really liked this recipe! It’s a keeper!
That’s great! I’ll have to try it with maple syrup next time.
I can’t cook/eat salmon another way after this recipe. I’ve also grilled then returned to pan to finish with the sauce. Also I mostly use larger fillets and cut to serving size after.
Delicious recipe, I’ve cooked the fist part on a bar b q – 4 minutes aside
Substituted the honey with Agave syrup and completed the recipe as you described. It was a hit.
